The StoryBrand One Liner: How to Introduce Yourself and Generate Interest in Your Business

storybrand one-liner

It’s happening. You’re at the industry event of the year. The room is filled with your dream clients. But there’s just one thing…you suck at networking. You freeze. You have no idea how to tell people what you do that will make them care. That will make them listen. That will have them dying to get their hands on your business card.

What do you say that will be intriguing without being sleazy.

You need a StoryBrand One Liner.

Not sure what StoryBrand is? Check out our StoryBrand resource page.

A StoryBrand One Liner is the base of your sales funnel.

It’s a couple of well crafted sentences that you’ll memorize, practice, and repeat in person, on your marketing collateral, and on your website.

And I’m giving you our magic formula for creating a StoryBrand One Liner that will get people to listen and take notice!

Part One of Your StoryBrand One Liner: The Problem

What is the problem all of your clients and customer’s face?

Start there.

When you start with what you do, you’re making the conversation about you.

What you need to do is pull people into a story loop…about themselves.

So let’s take the overarching problem that our clients have.

Here’s the beginning of our one-liner:

“After a few years, many lifestyle and hospitality businesses feel like there’s a disconnect between the brand they have and the brand they want.”

When you start with their problem, you’re pulling people into their own story.

They start thinking one of two things: that’s me or that’s someone I know.

And then you provide a solution to that problem!

Part Two of Your StoryBrand One Liner: The Solution

This is where you come in.

Layout in an overly simplified way how you get success for your clients and customers.

Perhaps you have a three-step process.

Or a suite of services.

Or a signature service.

Or an online course.

Or a book.

Drop in your offering or system next.

So let’s take a look at part two of the So Creative one-liner.

“so we designed a suite of strategy and identity design services”

Easy!

Part Three of Your StoryBrand One Liner: Success

What’s going to happen after you’ve worked your magic?

What’s life going to look like when their problem is solved?

Put all this together and here’s the So Creative One-Liner:

“After a few years, many lifestyle and hospitality businesses feel like there’s a disconnect between the brand they have and the brand they want, so we designed a suite of strategy and identity design services to create brands you and your customers will love.”

Notice how we haven’t listed every single thing that we do.

We don’t mention our entire process because that would be boring and overwhelming.

We kept it to the root problem, service, and solution that everyone needs to start.

My Experience Using Our One Liner

I’m not going to lie- I was skeptical about how this would work when I learned about it during my StoryBrand certification, because I’m basically the worst networker ever.

So when I went to Alt Summit I thought I’d give it a try.

I mean, that conference is filled with our ideal clients.

But being super strategic and logical, I thought I’d test out using the one-liner sometime and at other times I simply said, “I build websites.” Which is close to what other people were doing.

The difference was obvious.

Whenever I introduced myself as a web designer the conversation normally stopped and there was little interest.

But when I used our StoryBrand One Liner. Insane results.

When I was at a table and used my one liner, several people would hear and ask for my card.

When I was on the shuttle have a conversation with one gal, someone in the seat in front of her asked for my card.

This one liner works.

It takes some time to say it naturally like it’s not a script, but give it a try. You’ll love the results.

Where should you put your One Liner?

You’re going to want to put a version of your one liner in several places.

Make sure it’s on the home page of your website.

And create a simplified version for your social bios, your email signature and your business card.

Spread that one-liner around like glitter.

Conclusion

Create a StoryBrand One Liner.

Practice it, make it sound natural, and use it as much as possible.

Drop your one-liner in the comments- we want to see!
